Small businesses can get SMART

Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett, a Western Maryland Republican, will sponsor the fifth SMART PROC conference, which will be held in conjunction with SMART ( Strengthening the Mid-Atlantic Region for Tomorrow) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the FSK Holiday Inn in Frederick.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Lunch is included. This free event is designed to help small businesses succeed in obtaining contracts with the federal government.

The event will feature 58 confirmed speakers and 46 exhibitors and sponsors.

The SMART Organization consolidated several area partnership efforts that began in the mid-1990s. SMART fosters collaborative science and technology opportunities to increase market share and funding of research and development by public and private sector participants in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.

Resources to help find new career

The Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center offers a variety of workshops and programs to help individuals who may be seeking a job or looking for a new career.

Monthly programs include: career aptitude and interest inventory, applying for federal jobs, writing resumes and cover letters, effective networking, computer and Internet basics, starting your own business, interviewing skills, job references, and completing applications.
