Man died of asphyxiation

A man who was found dead in the trunk of a burning car in West Baltimore Monday night died of asphyxiation, city police said yesterday.

Agent Donny Moses, a police spokesman, said authorities have not identified the man. The body was found in a car parked in an alley near two abandoned houses in the 2100 block of Allendale Road.

Firefighters found the body after responding to a report of a burning vehicle about 8 p.m. Police did not release details of the man's injuries.

The city has had 241 homicides this year, compared with 219 at this time last year, according to police.
