Man admits posing as sailor

The Baltimore Sun

A 39-year-old Germantown man who impersonated a senior enlisted sailor at Bethesda Naval Medical Center was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Greenbelt to a year of probation.

Before he was sentenced, Thomas A. Minto pleaded guilty to impersonating an employee of the Navy in the fall of 2006. He told people he was a chief petty officer or senior chief petty officer, which gave him access to medical records and training, according to court papers.

There was no evidence that Minto harmed any patient, but the case exposed a security vulnerability, said Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein.
