James McHenry Elementary School was placed on lockdown yesterday after gunshots were fired in the parking lot.
Two or three shots were fired away from the school about 2:20 p.m., and a witness saw a male run away afterward, said Marshall "Toby" Goodwin, chief of the city school police.
No one was injured, but students were locked in their classrooms for about 15 minutes while city and school police searched the area, Goodwin said. Police were unable to find the gunman, and school was dismissed under police supervision.

Schools official Fulton resigns
The assistant superintendent of instruction for Carroll County public schools has resigned, district officials said yesterday.
Lorraine Fulton's resignation, effective Monday, was for personal reasons, said Carey Gaddis, schools spokeswoman. Fulton, who had served as deputy superintendent in St. Mary's County for nearly a decade, had worked in Carroll since February 2006.
The system's director of middle schools, Donald Pyles, will act as administrator in charge until the position is filled. The position is appointed by the county Board of Education.
