Man caught in chase faces drug charges
Anne Arundel County sheriff's deputies trying to serve a warrant in Annapolis instead arrested another man on drug charges, the sheriff's office said yesterday.
The deputies were looking for Deon Mitchell Brown on Clay Street about 5 p.m. Oct. 3 when they saw someone they thought looked like him and approached. The man fled but was quickly caught after a chase. He identified himself as Samuel Joyce at the county police department's Southern District station, where deputies said they recovered 12 rocks of crack cocaine from him.
Joyce was charged with drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brown remained at large.
Man charged in theft of tires at dealership
A Glen Burnie man was charged with stealing tires from a new BMW parked at an Annapolis-area dealership after police found him at a neighboring dealership with the stolen tires in his grandmother's van, Anne Arundel County police said.
Surveillance video at Jaguar/Land Rover of Annapolis on Ferguson Road recorded two people on the lot about 3:15 a.m.yesterday. Officers who went there found only Christopher James Kraft, 20, of the 7200 block of Judy Road. He said his girlfriend had dropped him off there, but police said they saw a white minivan nearby that was registered to his grandmother. Inside the van, police said, were four BMW wheels.
Officers then went to the BMW dealership at 25 Old Mill Bottom Road North and found a 2007 BMW M3 missing its tires.
Kraft was charged with felony theft, fourth-degree burglary and trespassing.
Knife wielder eludes police at gas station
A knife-wielding man who entered a Pasadena gas station early yesterday vanished before police arrived, Anne Arundel County police said.
An employee of the Shell station at 8449 Fort Smallwood Road said a masked man came in about 5 a.m. armed with a knife. The employee told police he was outside at the time and, fearing for his safety, ran into the street and flagged down a passing car to report a robbery.
He told police he thought the robber was still inside the station, but no one was found in a search of the business.
Woman hurt by car driven by ex-friend
A Pasadena woman was seriously injured when her former boyfriend ran her down with his car, Anne Arundel County police said.
The woman, 43, told police that after she and the man argued about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, he got into his car and intentionally struck her, breaking her leg and wrist. He left before police arrived. She was flown to Maryland Shock-Trauma Center.
Man given ride from bar is robbed
A patron of a Severn bar said he was robbed by a man who had agreed to drive him home Saturday evening, Anne Arundel County police said.
The victim told police that he had asked the man for a ride from a bar but that the man took him to the Center for Applied Technology-North on Stevenson Road in Severn, assaulted him, took his wallet and left him there. The victim was taken to Baltimore-Washington Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
The robber was described as about 6 feet tall, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, and driving a green Jeep.
Man walking home robbed by gunman
A Glen Burnie man said he was robbed at gunpoint as he was walking home, Anne Arundel County police said.
The victim told police he was walking in the 7800 block of Southampton Drive about 1:20 a.m. Sunday when a man approached him, placed a handgun to his head and ordered him to empty his pockets. The robber ran off with the victim's cell phone, wallet and keys.
He was described as in his mid-20s, about 6 feet 3 inches tall, thin, with curly hair and wearing a gray hoodie.
