Fundraiser -- The Soccer Association of Columbia/Howard County is holding its first Soccer Against Cancer campaign to raise money to fight breast cancer. This month is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Parents pledge $1 (more or less) for each goal scored this month by their children's team during regular games. Proceeds will be donated to Howard County cancer services and support groups, and the American Cancer Society and its Relay For Life fundraising campaign. There is a five-goal limit per game for individual contributions. Participation in the program is optional. Donations in any amount will be accepted. An "Awareness Weekend" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Covenant Park, Ellicott City. The American Cancer Society, Howard County Health Department, Howard County General Hospital, Claudia Meyer Cancer Resource Center and other local organizations will staff tents and distribute information. Games begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 13 and noon on Oct. 14. a_wall@verizon.net.
