Accidental gunfire wounds girl, 12
A 12-year-old Howard County girl accidentally shot herself Friday with her father's handgun, police said.
Howard County police said a father and daughter, whose identities were not released, went to Centennial Park for a hike about 5:45 p.m. The girl returned to the car to rest and found the handgun.
The weapon discharged and the girl was struck in the leg, police said. She was treated at a hospital and released. The investigation continues, police said.

Babysitter accused of abducting boy
An 18-month-old Newark, N.J., boy believed to have been kidnapped by his babysitter last week has been found unharmed in Maryland, authorities said Friday.
Authorities found Shelvon Torrence, 21, of Irvington, N.J., and the baby by tracking the woman's cell phone calls, said Special Agent Sean Quinn of the FBI's Newark office.
Torrence was arrested in Baltimore while trying to board a bus with the toddler in tow, said Detective Todd McClendon, a Newark police spokesman.
Death sentence for shooting rampage
A man convicted in a shooting rampage in Delaware and Maryland that left two people dead and four wounded has been sentenced to death.
Allison Lamont Norman, 25 was convicted in June of first-degree murder in the death of a Laurel, Del., man in the April 2005 rampage. Investigators said Norman shot three men in Delaware before driving a stolen car to Salisbury, where he carjacked and killed DaVondale Peters, then shot Carla Green while trying to steal her car, leaving her paralyzed.
A Delaware judge followed a jury's unanimous recommendation in sentencing Norman to death Friday.
I-95 south lanes to close overnight
All lanes of southbound Interstate 95 where it intersects with Interstate 895, just inside the Baltimore City line, will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. today until 5 a.m. tomorrow, the Maryland Transportation Authority announced. Traffic will be rerouted through southbound lanes of I-895 to eastbound Moravia Road and back to I-95 south to allow contractors to set steel girders for the future I-895 bridge.
