Entertainer's party paradise

The Baltimore Sun

Set on more than 8 acres and with more than 11,000 square feet, this house is the place for a party.

That's one of the things that appealed to homeowners Tim and Meg Evankovich, who bought this Howard County estate a little more than two years ago.

"Tim is an entertainer," Meg says. "We've had 100 to 150 people [over] and you don't get the sardine effect. It's a party house."

The main hallway with its marble squares inset into oak floors and multidimensional framework and moldings connects sprawling wings that provide perfect gathering spaces.

On one side, a large kitchen with an open eating/dining area and a marble-surround, wood-burning fireplace, seems perfect for drawing guests together. Near the center, two separate living rooms - his and hers as the owners see it - offer more space for visitors and lively discussions.

On the far end, a media room with several entertainment options - including a full bar with plentiful seating, a drop-down screen and projector for viewing football games and scattered tables for playing games - is where the family does most of its entertaining. There's even spillover space for partygoers on the cedar deck and brick patio just off the media room.

When the Evankoviches are done entertaining people, they move on to their next best friends: horses.

The couple are selling the house to make way for more of their four-legged companions.

"We are starting a horse training and breeding business," says Meg, adding that they will be moving just up the road to Ellicott City.
