Fortress International Group, holding company of Total Site Solutions, based in Columbia, acquired Innovative Power Systems of Dulles, Va.


Women Impacting Public Policy, a national women's business group, named Gloria Berthold, president of Elkridge-based TargetGov, as its 2007 Member of the Year.

Kevin Hollins, of Pikesville-based Hollins Partners LLC, received the 2007 Developing Leaders Award from the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.

The Maryland Retailers Association presented state Sen. John C. Astle of Annapolis with its Legislator of the Year award; Jim McCarron, formerly with Southern States, with the Louis L. Goldstein Service Award, and Alvin Levi, former owner of Howard Street Jewelers, with special recognition for outstanding service to the association. The awards were presented at MRA's recent Leadership Conference.


General Physics Corp., based in Elkridge, received a contract modification potentially worth $54.7 million from Westinghouse Anniston in Alabama to provide performance improvement services at the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility through 2017.

The National Institutes of Health awarded Annapolis-based PharmAthene Inc. a $13.9 million contract to develop Valortim, an anthrax antitoxin, in conjunction with New Jersey-based Medarex Inc.

South River Technologies Inc., an Annapolis-based innovator of secure file transfer and collaboration software, named Softline Co. as its first authorized distributor in Russia.


Kelly Benefit Strategies, the direct sales and consulting unit of Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, opened offices in the Atlanta metro area.


Villa Julie College announced the appointments of Henry H. Lewis and Nick Mangione Jr. to the President's Advisory Committee.

The Maryland Retailers Association elected Don Morris, of O'Leary's Emporium in Emmitsburg, chairman of its board.


Carpet Land opened its sixth metropolitan location, at 7915 Bel Air Road in White Marsh.
