What went right

In the fourth quarter all parts of Navy's team came together to make the plays that made the difference in the final score. The defense, led by Ketric Buffin's interception and Nate Frazier's pressure on Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, held the Blue Devils scoreless, while the offense, invigorated by backup quarterback Jarod Bryant, produced 14 points, including a game-winning, 44-yard field goal by backup kicker Joey Bullen.

What went wrong

While the offense rumbled to 25 first-half points, the defense struggled to stop Lewis from making the big passing play. The Blue Devils scored touchdowns on five of their seven first-half possessions.

Defining moments

With Navy trailing 43-35 in the fourth quarter, Johnson turned to a little razzle-dazzle. Slotback Bobby Doyle took a pitch and then passed to Bryant for a 5-yard touchdown. Bryant followed with a two-point-conversion run to tie the score to set the stage for Bullen to kick the game-winner as time expired.

What it means

Navy will be entertaining as it tries to gain valuable experience for its developing defense.
