THE ISSUE: -- Although details are not complete, Howard County officials plan to announce an ambitious plan next month that would make it one of the first counties in the country to offer health care to all uninsured residents. Under the proposal, uninsured residents of any age would pay a small fee for access to primary health care - using a participating doctor or clinic - instead of being forced into crowded hospital emergency rooms. Only Howard County residents would be eligible. What do you think of the idea?

Socialized health care comes with a cost

While this plan looks great on the surface, socialized health care comes with a cost. It will increase our county tax bills and make it even more difficult to get a doctor's appointment. Demand for new health care professionals might rival that of the education system. Howard County General should love this plan enough to fund 50 percent of the ticket.
