Construction of Clarksville roundabout set

Construction of a roundabout at Brighton Dam Road and Ten Oaks Road in Clarksville is to begin on or about Oct. 1.

Traffic on both roads will be maintained during construction, with flagging operations to direct motorists. Message boards and signs will be posted to advise motorists about the construction.

The project is expected to be completed by spring, weather permitting.

CSX Railroad will begin maintenance work on the railroad crossing at Woodstock Road and Old Court Road in Woodstock on or about Oct. 1. While the crossing is closed, traffic will be detoured along Old Frederick Road, Marriottsville Road, Granite Road and Old Court Road.

The project is expected to be completed by the next day, if weather conditions are favorable.

See hounds, horses, hunt master Oct. 6

The Howard County-Iron Bridge Hounds will ride to Sharp's at Waterford Farm at 11 a.m. Oct. 6. Take binoculars to see hounds, horses, riders and the hunt master in the traditional fox chase.

Free hayrides to the farm's pumpkin fields will be offered for those who want to pick their own. Farm animals and a large corn maze, scarecrow-making, a nature trail, observation beehives, a farm museum, and seasonal foods (apples, cider and honey, jams, preserves and other items) will be offered.

Lisbon bingo -- Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company will hold a basket bingo at 4 p.m. today in the fire hall, 1330 Woodbine Road, Lisbon. Doors open at 3 p.m. Prizes are Longaberger baskets, pottery and wrought-iron items filled with treats. Admission is $15 in advance, which includes a free game; or $18 at the door, if tickets are available. Tickets include 20 games and door prizes. Specials and raffles are also planned. La Leche -- La Leche League of Western Howard County, a chapter of the international organization, meets from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church, 12101 Linden-Linthicum Lane, Clarksville. Horse festival -- Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Lisbon will hold its Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A contest with horses in costume begins at 1 p.m. Pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, pumpkin decorating, games, door prizes, farm tours and food are planned. Live music has been donated by Cliff Art, a musical group. Fiddlers will supply bluegrass tunes. This year's festival also features a 50/50 raffle. Admission is $5 for families; $2 for adults, and $1 for children to age 12. Those younger than 6 are admitted free. Proceeds will benefit abused and neglected horses and ponies cared for at the nonprofit organization.
