A man was shot and wounded by police in Aberdeen yesterday after he pointed a gun at an officer and refused an order to drop the weapon, police said.
About 11:20 a.m., Aberdeen police responded to a call about a suspicious person at Ken's Motel in the 600 block of S. Philadelphia Blvd.
When the officer found the man and approached him, the man displayed a gun, said Sgt. Fred Budnick, a police spokesman. When the officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, the suspect "brought it up at a threatening manner," Budnick said. The officer fired more than three shots, wounding the man, 22, who was not identified. He was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in critical condition.
Police declined to name the officer.
