Threat is seen to U.S. sovereignty

History tells us that we will be celebrating the 220th year our Constitution has existed. It is certainly a landmark for our republic when you consider the efforts made by different individuals and groups to ignore or disparage it.

During the week of Sept. 17-23, Americans throughout the country will be celebrating this unique document, which with the Declaration of Independence, forms the basis for our government. It states that our rights do not come from governor, king or government, but from God and are inalienable, meaning that they cannot be removed by any ruler or any government.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure the rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

There have been many attacks on the Constitution in the past years. In 1975, the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia proclaimed a "Declaration of Independence Day" on United Nations Day.

In later years, our leaders seem to ignore the sovereignty - destroying elements which are leading us astray by signing international treaties such as NAFTA, etc., and involving us in an international "peace force" under the control of the corrupt but powerful United Nations to whom we give millions.

Perhaps the worst plan to destroy our Constitution is the program to merge our country and government with that of Canada and Mexico similar to the European Union.

On June 21, 2006, viewers of CNN's Lou Dobbs' Tonight heard the alarming introduction to a segment of the program devoted to the future of the United States of America: "The Bush administration's open-borders policy and its decision to ignore the enforcement of this country's immigration laws is part of a broader agenda. President Bush signed a formal agreement that will end the United States as we know it, and he took the steps without approval of the people of the United States." (published in New American, Oct. 2, 2006).

As Mr. Dobbs stated in his CNN program, "it is an absolute contravention of our law, of our Constitution, every national value."

Under the so-called Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) the nation will no longer have separate borders but will "implement common border security." The North American Union, which will replace the former independent states of Mexico, Canada, and the United States is now official U.S. policy.

Prime Minister William Gladstone in 1887 stated: "The American Constitution is the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man."

Must we sell our birthright for a mess of potage? Unfortunately, we have politicians who have sworn an oath to uphold our Constitution but who now say that it is "merely a scrap of paper."

Study the Constitution and let your congressman and the President know that you wish to obey the laws of the United States, not the United Nations.
