Share with kids a love of reading
Harford County Public Library is looking for adult volunteers to share the love of reading and books with children.
Through two volunteer programs, "Sharing the Gift" and "Partners in Reading," adults work with children either one-on-one or in a group setting in licensed day care centers, nursery schools and elementary schools.
"Sharing the Gift" volunteers spend a half-day each month from October through April introducing book-based programs to children at more than 30 centers.
Improving reading skills and developing an enthusiasm for reading in elementary school students is the goal of the "Partners in Reading" program. Volunteers visit selected students in 11 elementary schools on a weekly basis.
Training for "Sharing the Gift" will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Volunteers must attend both days. "Partners in Reading" training will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3. All training sessions are at the Bel Air library branch, 100 E. Pennsylvania Ave.
