The stage version of The Wedding Singer is like one of those dessert confections served at receptions through the land, one of those multitiered affairs traditionally decorated with a plastic bride and groom.

Both are frosted within an inch of their lives, are too sweet and, despite the sugar, are surprisingly bland. Neither has a shred of nutritional value.

If You Go The Wedding Singer runs through Sept. 23 at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, 12 N. Eutaw St. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays; 2 p.m., 8 p.m. Saturdays; 1 p.m., 6:30 p.m. Sundays. $25-$70. 410-547-7328 or france-merrickpac.com.
