A Northwest Baltimore baby who was the subject of an Amber Alert yesterday has been found safe, and the homeless woman suspected of taking her is in custody, police said.
About 6 p.m. yesterday, Southwestern District police spotted the woman and the baby girl at Edmondson Avenue and Poplar Grove Street and detained them, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.
Monroe said the woman was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives at police headquarters.
The child, Miracle Ziyonna Washington of the 3400 block of Park Heights Ave., was reunited with her family before she was taken to Mercy Medical Center for an examination.
"The little girl appeared fine, but the exam is routine in this kind of incident," Monroe said.
About 4 a.m. yesterday, the child's family discovered that the girl and the woman were missing and called police.
Monroe said the homeless woman, who had been staying with the baby's family for a few days, had several contacts in the Baltimore area and that other police jurisdictions were involved in the search.
