Offensive struggles

The Baltimore Sun

I'm blogging from the Fort Lauderdale airport, where I'm waiting for my flight and trying to figure out what happened to Maryland football after Maryland's first two drives.

Look, I'm just trying to call it as I see it, and Saturday Maryland's offense stalled after the first two drives. If the Terps play that way offensively on Thursday night - or for the rest of the season - they're in trouble, because it's only going to get tougher. If it weren't for Maryland's defense and FIU's mistakes, that game would have been disastrous, as 19 of Maryland's points resulted from two interceptions, a fumbled punt and a safety. Of its 14 possessions, Maryland punted nine times, missed a field goal, and had just one drive greater than 30 yards. The Terps' final touchdown didn't come until 53 seconds were left on the clock.

The positives? Maryland's defense held FIU to under 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing. Kevin Barnes' and Adrian Moten's interceptions both led to touchdowns on ensuing drives, and running back Keon Lattimore had a second straight game over 100 yards rushing.
