Games to Watch

The Baltimore Sun

No. 2 McDonogh @ No. 3 John Carroll

WHEN -- Tuesday, 4 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- John Carroll won the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title in 2004 and 2005 but lost in the semifinals last year. Even though the Patriots lost six starters from last year's team, coach Gary Lynch returns key players such as Allyson Carey and Grace Gaeng. The Eagles are led by defender Ali Brennan and midfielder Gigi Mangione.

No. 4 Fallston @ No. 5 River Hill

WHEN -- Tuesday, 6 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- Fallston is off to a good start, having defeated last season's Class 3A state champion Mount Hebron, 1-0, in overtime last week. Darren Twomnoh scored the game-winner against the Vikings. The Cougars will need to control the ball and the speed of the game against River Hill, as Howard County teams often play an up-tempo style.

C. Milton Wright Relays

WHEN -- Friday, 3:45 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- C. Milton Wright figures to be among the area's best teams boys and girls teams this year, and most Harford County schools are scheduled to run in this event.

Dulaney @ No. 3 Fallston

WHEN -- Friday, 3:45 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- This will be an early season test for Fallston, which suffered a heart-breaking loss to Severna Park in last year's Class 3A state semifinals. The Cougars got goals from Rachel Cooke, Caitlin Walker, Katie Conner and Krissy Fusco in their 4-0 victory over Mount Hebron last week and will need help at both ends against a solid Dulaney team.
