Speakers will discuss improving communication in marriage, improving the quality of parent-teen relationships, avoiding and escaping debt, and Internet safety.

County historic sites seeking volunteers
The Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, 3691 Sarah's Lane, Ellicott City, will hold a workshop on volunteer opportunities at the historic sites owned by the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks: the Fire House Museum, Thomas Isaac Log Cabin, Ellicott City Colored School, Restored and the Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park.
The workshop will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Ellicott City Colored School, Restored at Main Street and Rogers Avenue.

Teachers sought -- A group of former Centennial High School teachers is seeking other members of the faculty who taught at the school during its first two years, 1977-1979. An event is being planned in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of Centennial's opening. Drawing, painting -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor drawing and painting classes for ages 55 and older from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Mondays, tomorrow through Dec. 10, at the Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center in Ellicott City.
