St. James Parish to hold auction
Deacons' chairs more than 100 years old that were rescued from a 1966 fire, an old pupil's desk, an Amish bench and a $1,000 quilt will be among auction items at St. James Parish Hall, 5757 Solomons Island Road in Lothian today.
Doors open at 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. gavel. Vacation weeks available by silent auction. Food by Fabulous Brew.
The auction will benefit restoration efforts at the historic 1763 church.

Jewish holidays observances
The Annapolis community is invited to join the members of Congregation Kol Ami for the Jewish High Holidays.
The observance will begin with the Selichot program and service at 9 p.m. tomorrow at Bowie's Nevey Shalom, 12218 Torah Lane. Cantor Aaron Marcus will perform a concert of Jewish music.
Rosh Hashanah services will start at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday night at Congregation Kol Ami, 1909 Hidden Meadow Lane in Annapolis. Morning Rosh Hashanah services will be begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. Rabbi Henry Glazer will preside over the services.
Kol Nidre will be observed at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 21, with Yom Kippur day services starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 22.
Child care for ages 3 to 9 will be available during services.

St. Andrew's United to hold yard sale
St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Road, Edgewater, will hold its weekly yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow.
Spaces are $15 for a 10-by-10-foot space and $5 for tables.
Spiritual Cinema is set for Sept. 7
Unity by the Bay, 836 Ritchie Highway, Suite 18 in Severna Park, will hold a "Spiritual Cinema" at 7 p.m. today.

Glen Lutheran holds Rally Day
Glen Lutheran Church, 106 Carroll Road in Glen Burnie, will hold its annual Rally Day at 10:30 a.m. Sunday to mark the beginning of the Sunday school year.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the rally, and will conclude with a picnic on the lawn.

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and Day School, 4 Wallace Manor Road in Edgewater, will present "A Taste of the Season to Come" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
This concert will feature many of the artists who will perform during the coming season and a buffet reception.
This is show is free, but donations are welcome and tax-deductible.
Church rally, picnic set for Sept. 9
Jenkins Memorial Church, 133 Riviera Drive in Pasadena, will hold its church rally and community picnic at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Riviera Beach Community Park.
There will be food, beverages, games, face painting and other family activities.

Glen Burnie Baptist will host author
Dr. Joseph Taler, a retired Glen Burnie physician who survived the Nazi and Soviet occupations of Poland, will speak at 1 p.m. Monday at Glen Burnie Baptist Church at 7524 Old Stage Road.
Taler has published two books: In Search of Heroes and Polish Indians and Short Stories.

Caring Ministry series focus on grief
Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 400 Benfield Road in Severna Park, will host its Stephen Series Caring Ministry from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 15.
The series will cover topics: introduction to the Stephen series, ministering to those experiencing grief, and how to care in a distinctively Christian way.
The cost is $15 per person or $50 for a group of four.
