Play it again -- Orioles 8, Devil Rays 4

Breaking out

With the game tied at 4, the Orioles jumped the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' bullpen for four runs and five hits in the eighth. Miguel Tejada, Nick Markakis, Melvin Mora and Aubrey Huff singled off reliever Dan Wheeler. Mora's hit gave the Orioles a 5-4 lead. Scott Dohmann entered the game and surrendered Ramon Hernandez's three-run double. Markakis finished with four hits. Huff had three, including his seventh homer against his former team this season.

Risky business

It's not often that a pitcher issues an intentional walk so he can face the cleanup hitter, but that's what Jeremy Guthrie did in the fifth. With two outs and first base open, Guthrie walked Carlos Pena to bring B.J. Upton to the plate. Upton was batting .311 entering the game and singled in his previous at-bat, but the Orioles wanted to avoid the left-handed-hitting Pena (35 homers, 98 RBIs). Upton got ahead 3-0 and singled with the count full to score two runs and give Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead.

Hot in Florida

After going hitless in nine at-bats in Boston, the first portion of the road trip, Corey Patterson has been more productive beneath the Tropicana Field dome. Patterson had a two-run single and a stolen base Monday, and he gave the Orioles a quick lead last night with a bases-empty homer off left-hander Scott Kazmir in the first inning. Patterson deposited a 1-2 pitch into the right-field seats for his eighth homer this season. He has hit safely in 38 of 48 games since the All-Star break.

On deck

The Orioles conclude the series, and their road trip, with tonight's game against the Devil Rays. Radhames Liz will make his third major league start for the Orioles. Tampa Bay counters with right-hander Andy Sonnanstine, who received a rude welcome from the Orioles in an Aug. 5 start at Camden Yards. Sonnanstine allowed seven runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. But he has won two straight starts, and three of his past four.
