DHL opens new facility at BWI
DHL, a global express delivery and logistics company, has announced the opening of a facility at the BWI-Marshall Airport.
The $1.6 million, 18,663-square- foot facility will have 25 percent more space than the company's previous operations at the airport, as well as improved material-handling equipment for aircraft container loading and unloading.
The facility will handle additional routes in Baltimore and Howard County. It employs about 30 people, including couriers, administrative staff, managers, and sales and security personnel.
DHL recently completed a $1.2 billion expansion of its United States domestic network and infrastructure, including seven new regional sort centers and distribution facilities for the east and west coasts in Allentown, Pa. and Riverside, Calif., according to a news release.
EXPO center offers home decor clinics
EXPO Design Center 6100 Dobbin Road, Columbia, is offering free, interactive home decor clinics for consumers, to be led by store designers.
A clinic in kitchen design is planned from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and a clinic in home decor trends is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
Promotional discounts are planned throughout the store.
Founded in 1991, EXPO Design Center is a division of The Home Depot. The stores offer design services, installation, finance and delivery, as well as a line of home design products.
TEKsystems honored by Meals on Wheels
TEKsystems, a Hanover-based provider of information technology, contract employment and consulting services, was presented with an award by Howard County Meals on Wheels at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Aug. 3 at the Bain Center in Columbia.
The company is a member of Allegis Group, a privately held network of staffing and services companies.
TEKsystems volunteers have been delivering meals to Howard County clients of Meals on Wheels since 2001.
