Group to study future of HCC

The Commission on the Future of Howard Community College, a group of community and business leaders, has been given the task of providing recommendations to guide academic planning at the college.

Mary Ann Scully, president and CEO of Howard Bank, will chair the commission.

The group will begin meeting Sept. 19 to identify innovative ideas, emerging issues and alternatives for the college's future.

The commission will be organized into six task forces: They will examine environmental sustainability, work force development, education of health care professionals, creation of new programs, global education and establishment of an innovative, creative organization.

Tickets available for Grand Prix, raffle

In celebration of the 20th annual Columbia Classic Grand Prix, the Howard Community College Educational Foundation and the Grand Prix Advisory Board will offer 20 prizes as part of the Grand Prix raffle.

The grand prize is a choice of a 2008 Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle or roadster.

The Grand Prix features world-class equestrians competing on a course of obstacles, jumps, twists and turns.

The event will be held Sept. 23 at the Howard Community College campus, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Gates open at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8-$200. Raffle tickets cost $100 each or three for $250.
