Effervescence comes with a French accent

The Baltimore Sun

A triple dip of Julie Delpy - that's the multiple main attraction of 2 Days in Paris. The appealingly unpredictable French actress with the disarming smile and bright, ambiguous eyes merely starred in and co-wrote the sweepingly romantic Before Sunset. She is the director and sole writer, as well as the female lead, of 2 Days in Paris. (She also edited it and composed the music.) And in all departments, she gives a spiked ice-cream-soda fizz to this tale of a blond photographer named Marion (Delpy) and her swarthy, bearded lover, Jack (Adam Goldberg).

The movie doesn't add up to much, but it's an effervescent expression of an odd brute-hummingbird sensibility. Marion and Jack use her Paris flat (right upstairs from her parents') as the base for a two-day jaunt through the City of Light that is supposed to restore their spirits between a disastrous vacation in Venice and their return to New York City.

2 Days in Paris (Samuel Goldwyn Films) Starring Julie Delpy, Adam Goldberg. Directed by Julie Delpy. Unrated. Time 96 minutes.
