Tonight's game

The Baltimore Sun

Matchup -- Central Connecticut State (0-0) at Towson (0-0)

Time -- 7

Site -- Johnny Unitas Stadium

Outlook -- Towson is 9-0 in home season openers in coach Gordy Combs' previous 15 seasons, and the Tigers have beaten Central Connecticut five straight times, the most recent in 1996. But they carry a four-game losing streak at home into tonight's game. Central Connecticut, from the Northeast Conference, went 8-3 last season with an upset of Georgia Southern. The Blue Devils are 23-9 since 2004 and are coached by Jeff McInerney, who spent two seasons (2004-2005) at Rhode Island as defensive coordinator and is familiar with Towson. Only one of the previous seven games between the two schools was decided by fewer than 14 points. The Tigers seek their 100th win at Minnegan Field, which opened in 1978 as Towson Stadium. They are 99-53-2 in what is now Unitas Stadium. The Tigers will be playing without RB Nick Williams and DB Jimmy McClam, who are serving one-game suspensions for violating team rules in the offseason.
