Arundel's Hibbs commits to Fla. State

The Baltimore Sun

Arundel's Tyler Hibbs, a two-time All-Metro pitcher-infielder and Sun Player of the Year two years ago as a sophomore, has orally committed to Florida State for a baseball scholarship.

"I visited Florida State, liked the coaches and the idea of going south and playing in the ACC," Hibbs said by phone from Joplin, Mo., where he was preparing to leave today for Mexico and the Pan American 18-and-under junior championships.

Outfielder L.J. Hoes, of St. John's High in Washington, who is from Mitchellville, joins Hibbs as the only Marylanders to make the U.S. junior national team. The two led the U.S. 16-and-under team to a world title in Venezuela last year.

Last season, Hibbs was 6-2 with an 0.98 ERA and set school records for batting average (.584) and hits (52).
