How do you increase the time it takes for the computer to go into a powered-down mode when you don't use it for several minutes? Mine seems to go into that mode after just a few minutes.
- Ron Cosey
Click on the Start button and then select Control Panel. You'll find an icon called Power Options. Clicking on that icon will let you select various power-saving options, including the amount of time it takes before the computer powers down.
About three months ago, I began getting a pop-up when going to eBay, Google and many other sites. It appears on the bottom when doing a search and on the left states "Related Search" with "Starware" below. On the right, it shows a "Help" with a "Snooze" below. The help says you can remove this permanently by deleting it from your toolbar. I don't see it on my toolbar, and I've certainly never requested this annoyance.

I (along with a lot of other people) consider Starware to be spyware.
Most good anti-spyware programs will remove it. I'll also list a page here that offers a way to remove it manually: www.spywareremove.com/removeStarware.html.
Your question gives me a chance to warn readers that many "free" programs that promise to make searching easier are, like Starware, just junk that will slow your computer.
Before downloading any free program, use Google to do this search, just as I type it below:
(Obviously, you'd substitute the name of the program you are considering for nameoftheprogram.)
In most cases, you'll find out if the program is suspect by doing the search.
I have about 500 old LP records that I would like to convert to MP3 files. Are there any turntables that can connect directly to my computer's USB port to make the conversion easy?
- Jack Scott
You're not alone, Jack. There are a lot of people who want the same kind of product. And there are plenty of turntables out there that fit the bill. Just do a Google search like this:
"+turntable +mp3 +usb"
I noticed that Amazon.com offers a turntable with all the features you want. That model is the Ion iTTUSB Turntable with USB Record. You can find it on Amazon using the site's search feature.
But your Google search will turn up many more options. Once you find some candidates in the right price range, search Google for reviews and make your choice.
