ANDERSON RUNS STRONG
Backup running back Mike Anderson overshadowed Willis McGahee, gaining 37 yards on three carries while working with the first-team offense. Behind some ragged blocking, McGahee managed 3 yards on six carries.
TROUBLE WITH ANKLES
Playing on a rain-soaked turf, cornerback Samari Rolle and wide receiver Mark Clayton injured their ankles in the first quarter, but all X-rays were negative. Neither returned to the game.
NO ENCORE
After scoring a touchdown on its only drive in the preseason opener, the Ravens' starting offense managed only a field goal on four possessions last night. Steve McNair was intercepted on a deep pass and failed to convert a fourth-and-one on a quarterback sneak.
A LITTLE TOO JUMPY
The Ravens defense allowed its first touchdown of the preseason, and it can only blame itself. Three offside penalties - by Haloti Ngata, Bart Scott and Justin Bannan - helped the Giants on their 80-yard drive.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Coming into this game, we wanted to make sure our focus was there, and obviously it wasn't. A lot of different reasons you can point to - the preseason and this and that - but it's not a lot of stuff you can do to fix that. All you've got to do is come back and say, 'You just can't jump offside.' " - Tight end Todd Heap on the Ravens' lackluster game.
