Project to assess sewer main to begin this week

The Baltimore Sun

A county construction project to assess the condition of about 1,700 feet of sewer main is scheduled to begin this week. A robotic closed-circuit television camera has already traveled through the mains.

The sewer mains are in the vicinity of the outfall of the Allenford Pumping Station, near Route 99 and Bethany Lane in Ellicott City.

If relining of the mains is necessary, the project is expected to be completed by Aug. 30.

The new lining, which is made of three pieces of a sock-like heat-curable fiberglass resin, will harden inside the pipes and is expected to last for at least 50 years, said project manager Paul DiMarco of the Department of Public Works.

During repairs, the westbound lane of Route 99 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for at most three nights during the week, DiMarco said.

The closing is expected to be in effect tomorrow through Wednesday.
