Loehmann's to open store in Columbia

Loehmann's Inc., an off-price retailer offering designer fashions at reduced prices, has announced the opening of a 22,000-square-foot store next week at 8271 Gateway Overlook Drive in Columbia.

Founded in 1921 by Frieda Loehmann, the company's stores feature a "Back Room" that offers designer clothing at prices 30 percent to 65 percent lower than department or specialty stores.

An announcement by the company said the first Loehmann's store, originally an automobile showroom on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, N.Y., was filled with overstocks, samples and cancellations purchased by Loehmann from Seventh Avenue designers with whom she was friendly.

The Columbia store, which is to open Tuesday, is to include clothing by Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Anne Klein, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, BCBG and Catherine Malandrino as well as more than 4,000 pairs of shoes.

Loehmann's operates 67 stores nationwide, including three in Maryland.

The magazine's seventh annual survey ranks financial advisers according to the wealth of their clients. Financial Advantage has made the list for the past six years.

Body Talk of Baltimore and Laurel announced the availability of fitness classes online at

The studio for women ages 18 and older offers exotic dance moves, pole-dancing and belly dancing as low-impact workout programs designed to improve fitness.

Classes are offered Monday through Saturday in Baltimore and Laurel.
