Ellicott City native Beck to perform
Ellicott City native Sara Beck will perform at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia's One World Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. Aug. 25.
Beck, who lives and works in Nashville, Tenn., is a graduate of Centennial High School. Her husband, Park Chisolm, will join her in the show, as will Dan Buchner of the Kactus Boys.
The concert will be held at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.

Ice cream social, Tot Shabbat set
Beth Shalom Congregation, 8070 Harriet Tubman Lane, Columbia, will hold a Tot Shabbat for young children to age 5 and an ice cream social at 7 p.m. Aug. 24.
The event offers an opportunity to meet other families with young children and learn about membership in the congregation.
Concert to raise funds for an AIDS charity
First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City will present a performance by the Predestined, a Ugandan song and dance troupe focused on raising awareness and support for the victims of AIDS.
The performance, which emphasizes endurance and faith, is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 26 at the church, 3604 Chatham Road.
An offering will be taken, and child sponsorships will be available. Proceeds will benefit the AIDS Orphan Education Trust (AOET), a nongovernmental organization in Uganda providing homes and education to orphans and widows whose parents or spouses have died of AIDS.

Labyrinth walk scheduled Aug. 19
Journeys Community, a nontraditional spiritual-seekers group, will meet at Bon Secours Spiritual Center, 1525 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, to walk the labyrinth on the center's grounds.
The labyrinth, an archetypal image in many cultures, is a symbol of journeying toward the divine.
The group is to meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 on the grounds of Bon Secours. Light refreshments will be available after the walk.
Summer activities, many of them outdoors, are to be held through Labor Day; regular services are scheduled to resume Sept. 9.

Bag sale is on in Ellicott City
The Trinity Gift & Thrift Shoppe at Pfeiffer's Corner, 6010 Waterloo Road, Ellicott City, is holding a bag sale this month.
Customers can fill a shopping bag with clothing or other items for $3.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Hadassah to hold pool party Aug. 26
Howard County Hadassah will hold an end-of-summer pool party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 in Clarksville.

The nonprofit organization is open to women of all ages. The organization promotes health-awareness programs and community-based educational, Zionist and other youth programs.

Summer camp at Bet Yeladim
Bet Yeladim Preschool and Kindergarten is offering a summer camp program for children ages 3 to 5. Soccer and hands-on science activities are planned.

Church seeks DVDs, book donations
Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church, 14551 Burntwoods Road, Glenwood, is collecting books, videos, compact discs, digital video discs and records for its 11th Media Sale.
Donated items can be left in or around the blue box at the parking lot-side entrance to the church, if rain is not expected.
Encyclopedias and copies of Reader's Digest or National Geographic are not accepted.
