Guthrie off target in loss

The Baltimore Sun

Not long after Jeremy Guthrie exited the game after one of his worst starts of the season, he walked to the Orioles clubhouse and reviewed each of the 88 pitches that he threw to the Seattle Mariners over four rough innings.

He saw pitches with little movement, pitches that too often settled in the upper part of the strike zone. Guthrie is nearing a career high for innings in a season, but he maintained it was a lack of execution rather than fatigue that contributed to his early exit in the Orioles' 8-4 loss to the hot-hitting Mariners before an announced 17,511 at steamy Camden Yards last night.

Mariners@Orioles Tonight, 7:05, MASN, 105.7 FM Starters: Horacio Ramirez (6-3, 6.68) vs. Daniel Cabrera (8-11, 4.90)
