Unsweetened relief
Orioles manager Dave Trembley used four relievers in the seventh inning, with Jamie Walker being the least effective. Walker faced three batters and didn't retire any. Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer off him that gave Seattle a 4-3 lead. Richie Sexson and Kenji Johjima singled before Trembley brought in Chad Bradford, who allowed a run-scoring single to Jose Lopez.
Ibanez gets hot
Ibanez hadn't homered in 31 games and 116 at-bats before connecting against starter Steve Trachsel leading off the second. But he wasn't finished. He also homered off Walker, and added his fourth RBI of the game with a double in the eighth.
Getting acquainted
Ichiro Suzuki never faced Trachsel until last night, so they had a lot of catching up to do. Suzuki got the best of the exchange, going 3-for-3. He slapped singles to left-center, left and center in three at-bats and also stole a base. John Parrish replaced Trachsel with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth and retired Suzuki on a sharp bouncer to the mound.
On deck
The Orioles will try to boost Jeremy Guthrie's Rookie of the Year chances tonight when they oppose Seattle's Felix Hernandez. They've been pretty rough on Hernandez, who's 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two starts against them this season. For his career, Hernandez is 2-2 with a 5.65 ERA in five games against the Orioles, allowing 40 hits in 28 2/3 innings. He's 2-0 at Camden Yards.
