Burres out as Rays tag him

The Baltimore Sun

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- As well as Brian Burres has pitched this season, there remains a disturbing trend that Orioles officials cannot overlook when determining whether his future is as a back-of-the-rotation starter or a long reliever.

When he has gotten extended rest between starts this year, Burres has mostly thrown all his pitches for strikes, inducing weak and halfhearted swings from hitters who are uncertain what is coming next and at what speed it's going to arrive. When he has pitched with six days or fewer between starts, Burres has often lacked both command and movement, leaving soft-tossed pitches out over the middle of the plate and hitters eagerly waiting for their turn in the batter's box.
