Quarterback Kyle Boller got off to a good start with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Williams in the end zone and another long pass that Leo Bookman caught during one-on-one wide receiver-cornerback drills. But during 11-on-11 drills, Boller hurt his right hand when center Chris Chester snapped the ball too early. Three snaps later, Boller tried to step up in the pocket to avoid a pass rush and bumped into tight end Kendrick Ballantyne.

The hit of that day was registered by cornerback Derrick Martin, who leveled P.J. Daniels as the running back tried to turn the right corner at the line of scrimmage.

Quarterback Troy Smith had the kind of morning he will try to forget quickly. During one 11-on-11 drill, Smith floated a pass that was intercepted by cornerback Ronnie Prude. Later, Smith tried to connect with Damien Linson on a crossing route, but safety Jamaine Winborne stepped in for the interception.

"Stover! Stover! Stover!" -- Linebacker Terrell Suggs in an attempt to throw kicker Matt Stover off his routine during a field-goal drill. Stover calmly put the kick through the uprights.

Offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (turf toe), linebackers Mike Smith (shoulder surgery) and Dan Cody (knee surgery), fullback Justin Green (knee surgery) and offensive tackle Michael Kracalik (sprained ankle) are on the physically-unable-to-perform list and did not practice. Defensive tackle Kelly Gregg (right thigh bruise) missed the last 30 minutes of the morning session, while linebacker Prescott Burgess (stomach flu) sat out both the morning session and the afternoon special teams practice.

Today's practices are 8:15 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
