Body of officer wanted in wife's death is found
The search for a state corrections officer charged with killing his wife and wounding his stepson Friday night during an argument at their West Baltimore home ended yesterday with the discovery of the man's body at a pull-over on Interstate 81 north of Watertown, N.Y., authorities said.
Officer Troy Harris, a Baltimore police spokesman, said the body of Donald Webb Jr., 48, a 17-year member of the city's correctional center, was found about 4 p.m. seated in his blue 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
A handgun was found in the vehicle, Harris said.
New York State Police at the Watertown barracks said a trooper was making a routine check at the northbound pull-over about 15 miles north of Watertown in Jefferson County when he saw the body and notified his barracks.
New York State Police detectives were trying to determine how long Webb had been dead. An autopsy is to be performed today.
It was not known whether New York authorities were aware that Webb was being sought in the shootings of his wife, Cynthia, 42, and his stepson, 13, in their home in the 900 block of W. Lombard St. about 11 p.m. Friday.
Webb had been charged in a warrant with first-degree murder and attempted murder.
The boy is recovering at Johns Hopkins Children's Center after surgery for multiple bullet wounds.
