Everyday scenes of Havre de Grace will be the subject of the plein air paintings created by artists selected to compete in the second annual Havre de Grace Plein Air Painting Competition from Wednesday through Saturday.
The competition is sponsored by Soroptimist International of Havre de Grace.
En plein air is a French expression meaning "in the open air," used to describe painting in an outside environment rather than in a studio.
Artists were selected to compete by juror Jacqueline Baldini of Niagara Falls, Ontario, director and founder of the International Plein Air Painting Organization.
The competition judge will be Barbara Perrotti of Ormond Beach, Fla., also a member of the international organization.
Artists within the Havre de Grace city limits will create paintings on site.
During the competition, artists' location information can be obtained, and a map will be posted at the Havre de Grace Tourism Center, 100 Pennington Ave.
Final competition paintings and the artists will be at the preview gala exhibit and awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Tidewater Marina Waterfront Building, 100 Bourbon St.
The exhibit and sale will run through Aug. 19. Hours will be announced.
All proceeds from this event benefit Soroptimist International of Havre de Grace scholarships and community service projects.
