Book fair set for Nov. 10

The 11th annual Random House Book Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 at Carroll Community College.

Local authors are invited to participate in the event. Applications can be downloaded from www.carrollcc.edu. Forms and a registration fee of $25 must be returned by Wednesday to the Carroll Community College Foundation Office at 1601 Washington Road, Westminster, Md. 21157.

Local artisans and non-profit organizations also can participate as exhibitors. Fees are $25 for nonprofit organizations and $50 for businesses.

Career, technology programs offered

Carroll County public schools offer career and technology education programs in business, agriscience, marketing, allied health, trade, industrial and technical education, family and consumer sciences and technology education.

Business, marketing, agriscience, family and consumer science and technology education programs may be offered in each of the county's seven high schools.

Trade and industry and technical programs are offered at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center and South Carroll High School. An allied health program is available at the county center.

Programs are open to students who are interested in and qualify for these specialized career training and education options.

Students may enroll in grades 11 and/or 12 in the centers' competency-based programs, provided they meet prerequisites for specific courses.

Students are enrolled concurrently in the specialized programs and in their home schools to complete graduation requirements and participate in extracurricular activities. School bus transportation is provided.

A support service team is available to work with disadvantaged and disabled students who need additional assistance. For information, contact high school guidance offices or call 410-751-3000.

An application for career and technology education programs has been prepared and submitted to the Maryland State Department of Education for approval. The application is available for review and/or comment by the public. Information: 410-751-3104.

Scholarships announced

The Community Foundation of Carroll County has announced its scholarship awards for 2007-2008.

More than $115,000 in scholarships was presented to Carroll County students meeting criteria for various awards.
