City man chased, fatally shot near home

A man was chased and fatally shot outside his West Baltimore rowhouse early yesterday, and police said they were seeking two men in the attack.

The shooting occurred about 2:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of W. Baltimore St. Police said two men approached Samuel Epps, 30, and chased and shot him several times. He collapsed on a sidewalk, and paramedics took him to Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m.

A police spokeswoman said the victim had been on probation for drug violations.

Epps was the city's 180th homicide victim this year, and the second victim within a 24-hour period. The shooting of Epps and the discovery of a body Thursday ended a period in which the city went seven days without a homicide .

The man whose body was found Thursday afternoon was the victim of a homicide -- the 179th -- police said yesterday.

The remains of Christopher Robotham, 37, of Pikesville were discovered after a resident in Northeast Baltimore's Hillen neighborhood called police when he smelled an unusual odor coming from a car parked in the 1600 block of Waverly Way and saw blood dripping from the trunk.

Police said officers found the body when they opened the trunk, and that the state medical examiner's office later ruled the cause of death blunt force trauma.

Police also said the car had been reported stolen in Baltimore County.
