Jury trial granted in assault case
A Baltimore District Court judge yesterday granted a jury trial to a security guard accused of assaulting a Waldorf physician in the men's bathroom of a hospital as the doctor performed a Muslim cleansing ritual.
Criminal and civil court papers filed by Dr. Mohammed A. Hussain allege he was confronted by Rodney Corban, a security guard for the University of Maryland Medical Center who was off duty at the time of the incident. The documents say Hussain was washing his hands and feet in the bathroom sink when Corban yelled at him in a "threatening manner."
Hussain retold the incident to reporters yesterday after the brief hearing, claiming Corban pushed him out of the bathroom and down a hall to a uniformed security guard.
Judge Askew W. Gatewood referred the case to Baltimore Circuit Court. The trial is scheduled for Aug. 6.
