The Artemis Group announced that Sandra Schrader was named a senior consultant and Kelly Terrill an associate at the Annapolis-based public affairs, communications and business consulting firm.

Banking and finance

Provident Bank appointed Mark G. Dorney as president and program manager of its subsidiary, the Provident Investment Co. He will manage the sales staff in the purchase and sales of investments and insurance.

Education

The Johns Hopkins University named Kristina M. Johnson provost and senior vice president of academic affairs.

Hospitality-tourism

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore appointed Karl Kranz as vice president of animal programs. He will supervise activities of the animal, capital projects, horticulture, animal hospital and maintenance departments. The Druid Hill Park attraction also named Mike McClure as its general curator in addition to being elephant manager.

Mid-Atlantic Business Finance Co. appointed Laurie Slizewski and Perry Ealim to posts on the Glen Burnie-based firm's board of directors.

Friends Care Inc., the Cockeysville-based Quaker seniors services and programs organization, named Alice Cherbonnier, president of Allegro Communications, and Cartan Kraft to its board of directors.

Professional services

Cannon Design appointed John W. Rietz as a principal and Scott R. Thomas as vice president of the Baltimore-headquartered international architectural, engineering and planning firm's Baltimore office.

Real estate

Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corp. named Michelle J. Schiffer as asset manager for the Owings Mills-based mixed-use property developer.
