Ripken send-off

The Baltimore Sun

The Orioles will honor Cal Ripken Jr. before tonight's game at Camden Yards with a Hall of Fame send-off event. Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson, Eddie Murray, Earl Weaver and Robin Roberts will attend. Ceremonies begin at about 6:50 p.m. with the introduction of the Hall of Famers, followed by a video tribute on the scoreboard. Mayor Sheila Dixon will speak, and then Ripken will address the crowd. After his speech, Ripken will throw out the first pitch to Murray. The Orioles are giving away 25,000 bobblehead dolls depicting Ripken saluting the crowd on the night he broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive-games record. Near Gate D on the main concourse, the Orioles will hold a silent auction of Ripken memorabilia, with proceeds going to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, which promotes youth baseball and softball for disadvantaged children.
