The Baltimore Sun

Anne Arundel County fire officials and police were seeking whoever set fire to a vacant store at Southview Mall at Ritchie Highway and Hammonds Lane in Brooklyn Park yesterday afternoon, causing extensive damage to the building.

No injuries were reported.

How the fire was set was not disclosed.

Reported at 2:26 p.m., the fire went to two alarms at 2:35 p.m. and was declared under control at 5:46 p.m., said Lt. Roy Phillips, a Fire Department spokesman.

Phillips said more than 50 firefighters from various communities in the county and firefighters from BWI Marshall Airport responded.

Phillips said an investigation of the building showed evidence that the fire was intentionally set. He requested that anyone with information about who set the fire call the Fire Department's tip line, 410-222-TIPS.
