The Carroll County Public Library is holding a Summer Shorts Writing Contest for teens 11 to 17 in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program.
Teens can write short stories on a topic of their choice. Entries will be accepted through Saturday.
Each participant will receive a certificate and prize. Prizes in middle and high school divisions are: first place, $50; second, $30; and third, $20.
An awards ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Westminster branch, 50 E. Main St. Winning stories will be published on the library's Teen Page.
Entries may be turned in at any of the five branches.

School board work session set
The Carroll County Board of Education will hold an administrative meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Room 007 of the board offices at 125 N. Court St., Westminster.
A work session will be held at 2 p.m.
The regular meeting agenda will be posted on the school system's Web site at www.carrollk12.org.
Meetings will be broadcast on CETV, Channel 21 on Comcast, and repeated at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and the following Thursday, and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Supplies needed for schools drive
The Carroll County Association of Realtors is sponsoring a school supply drive to benefit Carroll County elementary schools students.
To provide students and teachers with a source to turn to within their school, the Realtors are hoping to donate supplies to each of Carroll's 21 public elementary schools.
Donations may be left at any local real estate office. The top five supplies needed are: No. 2 pencils, glue sticks, Post-it notes, loose-leaf paper and colored pencils.
Donations will be collected and distributed to each school.
The drive ends Aug. 17.
