Spalding fires basketball coach Chambers

Dale Chambers has been fired after just one season as boys basketball coach at Archbishop Spalding of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League.

After Mike Glick, who now coaches Gwynn Park, resigned at the end of the 2005-06 season, Chambers led the Cavaliers to a 10-22 record last season.

Spalding upset second-seeded and fourth-ranked St. Frances, 57-56, in the BCL tournament quarterfinals before losing to Mount St. Joseph, 63-35, in the semifinals.

Lee Dove, Spalding's athletic director, said Chambers' "coaching style and the personalities of our kids never quite blended together."

"So, in the best interest of everyone, we found it necessary to make the change to go in a different direction. We will search for another coach this week."

Chambers, who declined to comment on his firing, played under Mark Amatucci at Anne Arundel Community College and spent nine years as an assistant to John Brady at Annapolis before taking the Spalding post.
