Joseph Ptaszynski, 70, industrial engineer

Joseph Ptaszynski, a retired industrial engineer and volunteer, died of cancer July 10 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium. The longtime Perry Hall resident was 70.

Mr. Ptaszynski was born in Baltimore and raised in Canton and Highlandtown. He was a 1954 graduate of Patterson High School and served in the Army in Germany for two years as a radio operator.

He attended the University of Baltimore, earning a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1964. He was employed for 27 years with Western Electric Corp., first at its Point Breeze plant and later in Blacksburg, Va. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Dundalk chapter of Chorus of the Chesapeake. He also was a member of the American Legion's Parkville post and its barbershop chorus, the Balladiers.

Mr. Ptaszynski volunteered at several nursing homes in Towson and Perry Hall. He also enjoyed reading, crabbing and fishing.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Fullerton.

Services were held Saturday.

His wife of 39 years, the former Margie Cryser, a registered nurse, died in 2002.

Surviving are his mother, Margaret Ptaszynski of Perry Hall; a brother, Paul J. Ptaszynski of Bel Air; and two sisters, Mary Lynn Ford of Dundalk and Margie Gray of Hanover, Pa.
