Discuss the exhibition Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt with artist Joyce Scott on Saturday. The exhibit displays quilts made by African-American women living in the secluded area of Gee's Bend, Ala. Those who attend can take a close look at a quilt made by Joyce's mother, Elizabeth Talford Scott, a nationally renowned fiber artist originally from Baltimore.

Tasty art

See an artistic display on food at the multimedia exhibit The Menu Show, which celebrates the stages that food goes through - from production to consumption. A collection of worldly menus, photography, sculpture and a video documentary will be on display. The opening reception, featuring Caribbean-themed edible art, is tonight.

The opening reception is 6 p.m.-9 p.m. today at the Westnorth Studio, 106 W. North Ave. The exhibit runs through July 28. Studio hours are noon-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and by appointment on weekends. Two opportunities for Muggles to welcome the seventh installment of the Harry Potter series happen this weekend. At the East Columbia branch of the Howard County Library, visitors can watch and participate in Hogwarts classes, giant chess matches, a family-scrapbook workshop and more. At Daedalus Books in Belvedere Square, visitors can watch a show by fire performers from the Calefaction Society. Harry Potter lovers can purchase Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at both locations starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

A Kiss for Mom

The Hershey's Kissmobile may be making a stop by you as it travels through Maryland this weekend. Hershey's is inviting husbands, kids and friends to nominate a loved one for the "America's Sweetest Mom" contest by visiting the Kissmobile and recording a video. The sweetest mom will be featured on a bag of Hershey's Kisses and win a trip to Hershey, Pa. Additional activities at the Kissmobile include karaoke, a beanbag toss and crafts. Proceeds raised from the Kissmobile go to the Children's Miracle Network.

This weekend, the Kissmobile will visit various locations across Maryland. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Kissmobile will stop at the CVS Pharmacy at 28 Magothy Beach Road in Pasadena, and 3 p.m.-6 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy at 3300 Centennial Lane in Ellicott City.
