Parkville woman, 50, found dead amid evidence of fire

Baltimore County police and fire officials are investigating the death of a 50-year-old Parkville woman who was found late Saturday after her sister went to check on her. After entering the house where the woman lived in a basement apartment, authorities found evidence of a fire that had burned itself out.

The sister, who hadn't heard from the woman that day, looked in a door window and saw her lying in the basement hallway of the house in the 7800 block of Wendover Ave. in the Villa Cresta neighborhood, said Lt. Steven Miller, a Fire Department administrative duty officer.

The sister called police, and about 11:45 p.m., firefighters from the Parkville station and police responded to a report of a possible cardiac arrest patient, Miller said.

Firefighters and police entered the house, which contains three apartments, and found the woman dead, Miller said.

In parts of the house, firefighters detected smoke. They entered the dead woman's basement apartment, where they saw evidence of a fire and a TV in one corner that had melted.

"There was little fire damage because the house's insulation prevented fresh air from entering the dwelling, and the fire burned itself out," Miller said.

It was not known how long the woman had been dead, Miller said. The woman's name was withheld.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy, Miller said.

No injuries to other renters were reported.
