Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go everywhere," said Helen Gurley Brown.
Paris Hilton celebrated wholesomely July 5 and 6 after dancing on a couch at Malibu Beach and hitting the nightspot Area on the glorious Fourth.
Then, the blond heiress/model/actress/author/has-been/never-was/former jailbird took over her favorite bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It was all very pajama-partyish. Paris and girlfriends chowed down on grilled cheese-and-tomato sandwiches, strawberry shakes and chocolate coconut cake in the famous Fountain Coffee Room. All that was missing were Frankie and Annette.
The next day, Paris and pals ordered in from La Dolce Vita restaurant. She had chicken piccata, Steak Sinatra and chocolate tartufo ice cream. Paris, who couldn't be slimmer, must have a very active metabolism. The girls watched videos -- episodes of Entourage, the classic film Funny Face, which stars Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire, and the not-so-classic Sex and the Single Girl with Natalie Wood and Tony Curtis. Eclectic is Paris!
Parents Kathy and Rick Hilton stopped by for a poolside lunch with their beloved golden goose. They all waved to George Hamilton, who was nearby eating a McCarthy salad. He waved back. George once snared a movie deal while water-skiing and he has dated everybody from Lynda Bird Johnson to Elizabeth Taylor. So, he doesn't have to do more than wave.
Finally, Paris and court sped off to La Prairie salon for massages, facials, deep lovely thoughts, etc. Paris is still trying to rid herself of that dreaded prison pallor. Those head-to-toe spray tans can only conceal so much.
No miracles have yet occurred in the wake of her days in jail. And so far as I can tell, Paris has not yet begun her life of helping the needy as promised. Will people hold it against her if she falls short of her good-intentioned Larry King comments? Well, as long as she doesn't drink and drive, I'll feel that's a good deed in a naughty world. And we all have to accept our limitations.
Songwriter shines
Tonight and tomorrow, Ron Abel does his thing at Birdland and turns his talent into a chance for those who care to hear his big star friend, Lucie Arnaz, singing some of his songs. Valerie Pettiford, Sally Mayes and Michele Lee will also drop by to sing and applaud their musical director-arranger. This is a first time out for Ron and his partner Chuck Steffan. They have several Broadway shows in the works. Go! Then you can say you knew 'em when!
Back to Broadway
Shooting star! Young Leslie Kritzer, who is so good as a sorority girl in the delightful musical Legally Blonde, gets her big-time shot in the new Harvey Fierstein/John Bucchino Broadway-bound musical A Catered Affair. She'll play the bride-to-be.
This is based on the classic Paddy Chayefsky teleplay and MGM movie in which Debbie Reynolds starred. Kritzer leaves her Blonde onstage family soon to work alongside Faith Prince, Tom Wopat and Harvey himself. They will do their tryout at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. Tony winner John Doyle is directing.
